Founder and longtime publisher of Soccer America magazine, the leading American soccer publication from the North American Soccer League era to the Major League Soccer era. Berling, a youth soccer league official, started a weekly newsletter titled Soccer West in 1971, and changed the name a year later to Soccer America. Berling, who worked as an insurance agent, sustained Soccer America through some difficult early times, and by the 1990s, the magazine had become a recognized international authority in the sport. Inducted in 1995.
