Edward Donaghy

1951 Inductee

The first American ever named to referee a game between two other countries. Donaghy, who had been a star player for Bethlehem Steel and several other teams between 1911 and 1919, refereed all three games of the World Cup qualifying series between Mexico and Cuba in Mexico City in March 1934. He had begun refereeing in western Pennsylvania after the end of his playing career and refereed the U.S. Open Cup finals in 1930 and 1934. Inducted in 1951.
