One of the mainstays of the greatest New York Cosmos teams in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Brazilian sweeper joined the Cosmos in the middle of the 1977 North American Soccer League season and helped to spark the late-season surge that carried them to the NASL championship. He won additional NASL titles with the Cosmos in 1978, 1980 and 1982. Before joining the Cosmos, he had played for more than a decade for major Brazilian clubs and was captain of the Brazil team that won the 1970 World Cup. Inducted in 2003.
